NOVEMBER 30-DECEMBER 4

I hope you are all having a great week. Thank you to all the parents that helped with the Powwow and the Thanksgiving Feast. A fun time was had by all. When we come back to school the first graders are going to be busy practicing for the Christmas Program which will be held, Wednesday evening, December 9th at St. Patrick's Church. Hopefully your child has been working on learning the words to the songs that we will be singing. On Monday when we come back we are going to try to rehearse without the words.

Progress reports went home last Friday. Please make sure that you sign and return them. Thank you.

Curriculum remains the same in Reading. In Math we are beginning a unit on tens and ones. In Social Studies we will be discussing different Christmas traditions in other countries. In Religion we are finishing up the saints and will be learning about Advent. The entire first grade will be saying the morning Advent prayer on Friday, December 4. You are all invited to attend. It will begin at 8:00.
Friday, December 4 is also a minimum day with dismissal at 12:30.

NOVEMBER 16-NOVEMBER 20

We have one week until our week of Thanksgiving vacation. The first graders made the turkey centerpieces for the Thanksgiving dinner on Wednesday evening at the Parish Hall. Thank you to the moms and grandmother who helped with that project. When the dinner is over the first graders will be allowed to take their turkey home. If you were unable to attend the Veteran's Day assembly you missed a great performance by each class. The veterans loved it as did the parents who were able to attend.

On Thursday all students are allowed to have a free dress day. On Friday morning there will be a Thanksgiving Prayer Service at 8:15. You are all invited and welcome to attend. Also on Friday the first grade will be joining the kindergarten to have their annual Thanksgiving feast. Thank you to the parents that are helping.
This week we will also begin practicing for the Christmas Program. First grade will be performing in that. If a list of songs comes home please work on your child learning the words. I have not yet decided how I will work this.

Curriculum remains the same. Just a note about math facts. It is very important that your child work on these everyday. The goal is that they increase there speed with accuracy and not use fingers, beads, or number lines to figure out the answer. Flashcards are the best way to get to this point. In the end memorization is a big part of it. Thank you for your cooperation.

NOVEMBER 9-NOVEMBER 13

Greetings!
It was nice to see all of you last week at conferences.
On Tuesday, November 10, we are having a Veteran's Day celebration. It will begin at 8:30 in the auditorium. All classes are participating. You are welcome to attend and if you have veterans in your family be sure to invite them. We would love to have them. We do have school on Wednesday, November 11.

The first graders will be making the Thanksgiving Dinner centerpieces this week. We are not in the Thanksgiving Program, but will perform in the Christmas and Spring Program.

Curriculum remains the same. We are starting the 3rd level of our reading program. Through conferences I think you realize the importance of knowing vocabulary. It ties together with the workbook pages, board work and reading. Thank you for working with your child in this area.
