We hope you all had a relaxing, enjoyable vacation and Thanksgiving. When we come back we will soon be into the Advent season. The first graders are presenting the morning prayer on Thursday, December 6 at 8:00 a.m. You are all welcome to come. Both first grade classes will be attending The Nutcracker on Thursday, November 29. It is exciting as some of our students will be performing. It should be a great time for all. Drivers have already been contacted and should be at school by 8:45.
In Language Arts we will be finishing up the 3rd level of readers. We will then be moving into a hardback copy. We are working on short vowel a, e, i, and o, blends, digraphs, contractions, compound words, cause and effect, sequencing, comparison and contrast, comprehension and vocabulary.
In Social Studies we are working on a Native American unit and reading maps. In Science we are learning about animals in the ecosystem. In Religion we are finishing up saint books.
Just a reminder: We have been having some problems on the playground with children being unkind to one another. We have discussed this in the classroom but would also like you to discuss this at home with your child. "You aren't my friend" or "you can't play with us" are the kinds of things that are being said. Thank you for your help in this matter.

NOVEMBER 12-NOVEMBER 16
We enjoyed meeting with all of you during conferences. Thank you for taking the time to come. It is much appreciated. Mrs. Mills' first graders will be performing in the Thanksgiving Program on Wednesday, November 14. The program starts at 6:30 with a delicious dinner following. The first graders made the turkey table decorations for that evening. They did a fantastic job. Thank you to the moms who came in and helped.
A permission slip went out for The Nutcracker Ballet that we will be attending on Thursday, November 29. Please make sure that you return them before Thanksgiving vacation.
In Language Arts we will be starting on the short e sound. We will continue to review short a, i, and o. We will be reviewing contractions, compound words, blends, digraphs, sequencing, cause and effect, main idea, comprehension and vocabulary.
In Math we are back into subtraction. It is a good idea to continue the flashcards on both addition and subtraction problems. We have gone no higher than 12. In Religion we are putting together a saint book and in Social Studies we have started a Native American Indian unit. We are also working on the ecosystem in Science. In P.E. we are jump roping.

We are into the month of November and conferences. A reminder: Dismissal is at 12:30 all week. We look forward to seeing you.
We have several reminders for the week. Mrs. Bellini's students need to return their permission slips by Monday in order to go to The Courtyard and The Hampshire. Both classes need to have in their large, old, white T-shirts by Wednesday, November 7.
Mrs. Mills' class is practicing for the Thanksgiving program. They are working hard.
In Language Arts we continue to work on the short vowel sounds, categories, cause and effect, ed and ing endings, contractions, digraphs, and comprehension. Continue to review the vocabulary words and to have your child read at home.
