MARCH 1-MARCH 5

The Stations of the Cross with the 8th grade was a great reminder of what Lent is all about. The first graders did a good job. There will be an all-school Mass on Friday, with dismissal at 12:30.

There is also a penny war going on amongst classes. We are all collecting pennies for a "cure for cancer".

The 3rd quarter has ended and report cards will be coming out on Friday. Again, this is a good time to remind your children that they should always put forth their best effort and to remember to follow classroom and playground rules.

Curriculum remains the same. I will be giving a vocabulary test beginning this week.

FEBRUARY 15-19

I hope you have enjoyed the 4 day weekend. We do have a short week, however the first grade is responsible for the Ash Wednesday Mass on Wednesday. The first graders will be reading, bringing up the gifts, or singing. The Mass begins at 8:15. This is a good time for you to talk to your child about the season of Lent. Lent is a time to grow and change. We will be doing a service project for the needy during Lent. More information will come later.

A thank you to all you helped with the Valentine's Party and International Night. Both were fun and a big success.

In Language Arts we are learning about long a. We continue to review the short vowel sounds, digraphs, contractions, compound words, endings of s, ed, and ing, sequencing, cause and effect, problem solving, main idea, summarizing, vocabulary and comprehension. In Religion we will be studying about Lent and the Stations of the Cross. In P.E. we will be introduced to a dance unit. In Science we are working on the Four Seasons and weather. In Social Studies we will be learning about the United States, symbols, and the flag.

FEBRUARY 8-12

Happy Super Bowl Sunday. We had a great week with all of the Catholic Schools Week activities. I think the highlight was Buddy Day. We met up again with our buddies on Thursday and did P.E. with lots of fun dances. It was great fun. Thank you to all the parents that helped transport children back from Mass.

A reminder that Friday, February 12 and Monday, February 15, are holidays and there will be no school. So we have 2 short weeks coming up.

Tuesday evening from 6-8p.m. will be the International Night in the auditorium. It is free and I hope to see you there. The first graders did a great job on their reports about Kenya. They will be on display.

On Thursday, February 11 there will be a Valentine's Party beginning at 1:30. A note went home on Friday with information.

Curriculum remains pretty much the same. In Language Arts we will start learning about the long vowel sounds. We will be taking a Reading test this week. It covers the reading skills that go with our Reading program and the workbook pages.

Progress reports will go out on Thursday. They need to be signed and returned the following week. This is a good time to remind your children how important it is to continue to study vocabulary, spelling words and math facts. Your child should always do their best work, whether it is copying something from the board or coloring. Please remind them about classroom, auditorium and playground rules.
Thank you.
