DECEMBER 17-DECEMBER 21

Greetings! There will be no spelling words this week or vocabulary words. This is a great time to practice up on the vocabulary words that your child doesn't know.

A reminder: School is dismissed on Thursday, December 20, at 12:30. There will be no extended care that day. It is also a free dress day on Thursday, December 20.

A reminder to Mrs. Mills' parents: Please turn in the $15.00 donation for the auction project. Thank you to all that have already done so.

A great big thank you to all of you that sent in a gently used item for the "Spirit of Christmas" dinner. The response was wonderful and the children loved seeing all the things that were brought in and donated.

Have a wonderful Christmas holiday. GOD LOVES YOU!

DECEMBER 10-DECEMBER 14

The holidays are fast approaching and many things are happening at OLM. We hope to see all of you at the Christmas program on Tuesday evening. Even though the first grade is not in the program it is a great way to get into the spirit of Christmas.

A reminder: the first grade is responsible for bringing in either flour, sugar or salt for the "Spirit of Christmas" dinner. We are also asking you to donate one item of your child's to give to the "Spirit of Christmas" dinner. Thank you so much for the items that have already been brought in. It really helps your child understand what Christmas is all about.

The first graders did a great job with the morning prayer last Thursday. Thank you for all that came and supported.

Another reminder: Your child will receive free dress if you will complete the Capital Campaign survey that is on the OLM website. Just send a note with your child that you filled it out. Thank you.

In math we are now working on tens and ones. Please keep up the flashcards working with addition and subtraction. In reading we continue to work on short vowels, cause and effect, sequencing, categories, blends, digraphs, comprehension and reading vocabulary. We are also starting to work on nouns and verbs. In science we are finishing up the ecosystem and in social studies we are working on map directions, Christmas Around the World and Native Americans. In religion we are focusing on Advent and Christmas.

DECEMBER 3-DECEMBER 7

Thank you to all the parents that helped with the Native American Pow Wow and The Nutcracker. The children were really enthusiastic and enjoyed it all.

The students in Mrs. Mills' class will be bringing home an atlas. Please look at pp. 14-17. We are working on map skills. Mrs. Mills would like her students to know directions using the terms north, south, east and west. When looking at a map always locate the compass rose which indicates north, south, east, and west. A good exercise with the map of the United States is to have your child put their finger on a state and then ask them what state is north of it, or east of it. This is an easy way to see if they understand the direction. The atlas will go home a couple of nights. Thank you for your help.

Thursday morning the first graders will be presenting the morning prayer. You are invited to attend. It will start at 8:00.
