FEBRUARY 23-FEBRUARY 27

We hope you all enjoyed your week's vacation. Thank you to the parents who helped out with the Valentine's Day Party. Everyone had a great time. And now we are back for a short week. Lent begins this week. Please talk to your children about Lent and something they might do during the Lenten season that will help someone else. We will be discussing it in the classrooms. The Ash Wednesday Mass begins at 8:15 and it is being planned by Mrs. Bellini's class. You are all invited to attend. It is a good way to begin the Lenten season.

Remember dismissal is at 12:30 on Thursday and there is no school on Friday. The teachers will be attending the Religion Congress in Anaheim.

Our curriculum remains the same. We are not sending home vocabulary words this week as the story we will be starting we will work on for 2 weeks. That gives your children some extra time to work on vocabulary. We are about ready to test vocabulary again. The first graders were given a Reading Assessment that goes with our Reading program. Please continue to work with your child on vocabulary and math facts.

If you have read this blog have your child write down 2 doubles addition facts. Have a good week and remember: GOD LOVES YOU!

FEBRUARY 9-FEBRUARY 13

Another busy week has passed what with International Night. We think it was a huge success and thank you to all of you that helped and attended. A fun evening was had by all. We will be having a Valentine's Party on Friday afternoon at 1:30. Information will come home about valentines. Progress Reports will also be going home on Friday. And then we are off for our Winter Break Vacation.

A note about the Math-A-Thon: All of your children completed the math booklets in class at school. Several were sent home to be completed. The $1.00 should be turned in by Monday. Thank you to those of you who returned more. All monies are to be in by Wednesday.

In Language Arts we continue to work on short vowel sounds, introduction of long a, blends, digraphs, cause and effect, sequencing, categories, nouns and verbs, contractions, compound words, summarizing, main idea, predictions, looking for details in illustrations, and vocabulary, vocabulary, vocabulary. In Math we are back into math facts adding up to 18 and subtracting starting with numbers 13-18. We will then be touching on adding 3 digits and a review of fact families. In Social Studies we are finishing up the United States and in Science we are working on the four seasons and weather. In P.E. we will be starting a dance unit. In Religion we have been talking about the miracles of Jesus and we will be moving right into Lent. Mrs. Bellini's class will be in charge of the Ash Wednesday Mass.

FEBRUARY 2-FEBRUARY 6

Catholic Schools Week is over and a great time was had by all the first graders. We think the highlight was definitely Buddy Day. It was wonderful to see one of our own first graders, Spencer Wolf, be baptized and become a member of the Catholic Church. Another thank you to Mr. and Mrs. Pellicano for getting the VIA bus for our ride back to OLM School.

This week we are hopefully back to normal. There is a minimum day on Friday, with dismissal at 12:30.

International Night is Thursday, 6:00-8:00 p.m. The reports that were turned in by your children were very good and their classmates are enjoying learning about their respective countries of France and Germany.

Curriculum remains the same, but there will be a focus this week on France and Germany in Social Studies.

Mrs. Mills' class has free dress on Tuesday because of the boxtops that were turned in by her class.

Sometime within the next several weeks Mrs. Bellini and Mrs. Mills will be sending home reading packets on Monday and Tuesday nights. The book inside the packet is to be read by the student to a parent. The parent is then asked to initial the reading packet on the front and it is to be returned the following day. It is very important that the packet be returned as it is to go home with another child the following day. We are starting out with easy reading. Easy reading is a good way for your child to become more fluent in reading. Asking questions of your child about the story is also very helpful in reading. Remember all questions asked are good questions. So be looking for the reading packets.

If you have read this blog find out what the official name of the groundhog is that comes out on Groundhog's Day and have your child write it down on a piece of paper and give it to their teacher. Also let us know whether he saw his shadow or not. The name is a long one. Thanks again for all of your support along the way. GOD LOVES YOU!
